Rare Royal Engineers Cocked Hat

October 3, 2009

This hat has Zulu War provenance and dates back to the 1870s. Featuring a Royal Engineers button on the front, complete with Victoria crown,  it is in very good condition for its age. There is some wear around the edges, but the beaverskin is unmothed and the hat is complete. The liner on the inside is shagreen, a pleasant and unusual detail in hats such as these, and the outer hat has a very attractive black braid. Not only does this hat come in its original tin, it even has the original padlock and key – highly unlikely surviving artefacts. The padlock has the VR cypher on it. It’s quite simply something you’re unlikely to come across again any time soon.

AU $990
